Sept. 25: Senior Health Fair Held at Prospect Park Residence

Free Health Information, Screenings for Older Adults Open to Public

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Sept. 25, 2010 – Prospect Park Residence, a full-service senior living community in Park Slope, hosted a Senior Health Fair on Sat., Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, which was held in honor of Healthy Aging Month, featured medical professionals offering information and advice for attendees.

“This event provides an opportunity for area seniors and family members to speak with various local resources in one convenient location,” said David Pomerantz, Executive Director at Prospect Park Residence. “The health screenings can alert seniors of potential health problems that should be discussed with their primary care physicians.”

The health fair provided a variety of free health and wellness sessions and information. Attendees also received free gifts. Informative break-out sessions were as follows:

  • 11:15 a.m. – “The Facts and Myths about Diabetes” presented by Certified Diabetes Educator, Debra Gross, MS,RD, CDN
  • 1 p.m. – “Pet Therapy Teams: What They Are & How They Help” with Claire Cario, Executive Trainer with the Good Dog Foundation

     

  • 1:15 p.m. – “The Mouth Body Connection” with Dr. Arnold Liebman, DDS
  • 2 p.m. – “Identity Theft: What it Is, How It is Stolen & How to Protect Ourselves”was presented by Eleanor Spring, Certified Fraud Investigator

Free screenings offered included balance screenings courtesy of FOX Rehab; mini oral health screenings provided by Dr. Arnold Liebman, D.D.S.; mini hand and chair massages courtesy of Licensed Massage Therapist, Lizet Rayside; and blood pressure screenings with a nurse from Prospect Park Residence Home Care among others. Information regarding Prospect Park Residence, including independent living, home health services, Essentia® Memory Care, Trial Stay and Respite Programs were also be available.

Precision Pharmacy offered individual brown bag sessions throughout the fair.

This free service was designed to ensure safety, check for drug interactions, and make sure all expiration dates are acceptable. Health and wellness exhibitors included physical, occupational and speech therapy information from FOX Rehab; The Alzheimer’s Association; Caring Hospice; Brooklyn Public Library’s Services to the Aging; a Diabetes Educator; medication interaction information with the Pharmacist; and long-term care insurance.
