Caregivers & Professionals Learn Helpful Techniques to Make Delicate Decisions for Others at Prospect Park Residence

BROOKLYN, N.Y., July 28, 2010 – Viki Kind, MA, recently spoke to families, caregivers and healthcare professionals at Prospect Park Residence in Brooklyn on how to make the right medical and life decisions for loved ones and patients who can no longer make those decisions for themselves. She discussed an adaptable system for making complex choices that gives people back their power, dignity and voice by teaching others to be great decision making partners for them. Kind is an author, clinical bioethicist, medical educator and hospice volunteer who lectures throughout the United States on the subject.

In her presentation at Prospect Park Residence, she provided information and guidance on making health decisions with care and compassion while respecting what is or was important to that person. Kind shared many of the tools and techniques from her book, “The Caregiver’s Path to Compassionate Decision Making: Making Choices for Those Who Can't.” Attendees included those who are caring for individuals with challenging conditions such as Alzheimer’s, strokes, brain injuries, developmental delays and other mental limitations.

Prospect Park Residence, a full-service senior living community, hosts informational lectures throughout the year that provide professional development opportunities to healthcare professionals and support to families and caregivers from the greater New York area.
