Brooklyn Man Delivers Nostalgia and Fun to Prospect Park Residence

Vintage Vehicle Collector Shares His Good Humor in Many Ways

BROOKLYN, N.Y., July 21, 2010 – Brooklyn resident Lenny Shiller (center) enjoys sharing his love of antique automobiles, trucks and motorcycles with people throughout the borough, including residents of Prospect Park Residence, a full-service senior living community. Shiller, who owns nearly 170 one-of-a-kind vintage vehicles and antique bicycles and tricycles, has been treating residents at Prospect Park Residence to ice cream from his authentic 1965 Ford F-100 Good Humor truck for several years.

“When my father lived at Prospect Park Residence, I was asked to revive and run the News & Schmooze discussion group for the residents, which became very popular and continues to this day,” said Shiller. “It’s a pleasure to be able to maintain close ties with the community and have some fun with everyone; I’ve always enjoyed chatting with the residents there.” Shiller, who lives in the same neighborhood, drove the special route on Prospect Park West in his best ice cream man attire to hand out the frozen treats from the truck’s original porcelain cooler; he later stopped at the Union Street fire house and Brooklyn Free School, also in the area, as part of his good-humored delivery.

Lining up in front of Prospect Park Residence for Shiller’s delicious delivery of sundae cones and popsicles are (L-R) Olga De La Cruz, coordinator of the community’s Essentia® program, resident Gloria Langsam, and private aide Joy Faye McPherson.

Prospect Park Residence holds special events for residents on a regular basis in addition to a full complement of cultural and educational programs. For more information, visit www.prospectparkresidence.com or call (718) 622-8400.
